Our Food

At Shankill Castle, we are passionate about sustainability, buying local and growing our own. We grow as much organic fruit and vegetables as we can in our walled gardens. Come harvest time the fruit trees are bursting with succulent apples, pears and plums to name a few. All summer the garden is laden with raspberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants. And all year round we have a selection of onions, leeks, leafy greens and fragrant herbs. We continually hunter gather the surrounding hedgerows and fields where wild mushrooms, elderflower and blackberries grow. We even have an allotment membership scheme for the public to grow their own produce too. Guests at Shankill Castle eat the finest homemade home grown and local produce.

We offer the best of home cooking. Fresh eggs, fruit and vegetables are the staples of our menus. We have our own premium beef suckler herd, and sell our Zingy apple juice locally. And all of this is pollinated by nature’s best friend, the bee! So of course, we have our own delicious honey too. If you are a DIY or even GIY kind of person and are hosting your event at Shankill Castle we offer you the opportunity of growing your own menu or even your own wedding bouquets. We will help you out with a lot of the hard work so you don’t have to be there all the time.p>

We are currently developing a cafe at Shankill Castle and run a pop up cafe during our public events. Refreshments can be ordered in advance for groups or on request for those dropping in for a guided tour. You can become a member of the allotments by contacting reubencope@hotmail.com. Annual membership fees start at €50.
