The castle and gardens are surrounded by our family-run mixed farm, which is certified organic.
Shankill Organic Farm
Driving our way of farming is a sense of care and responsibility towards the environment and an aim to keep our soil as healthy, rich and abundant as possible. Our traditional herd of Aberdeen Angus and Aubrac cattle graze on diverse grass pastures.
Our tillage fields include heritage wheat which is processed by a local mill, Kells Wholemeal, in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny (the flour from which we then use in our café). We grow vegetables in our walled garden that are served in the café. Our beloved donkeys are an important part of our farm and keep the grass trim in all the hard-to-reach places.
