Flourish August 7th – 14th, 2016
Flourish, a lavish festival of the arts takes place during Kilkenny Arts Week at Shankill Castle, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny.
This year sees the 24th year of Shankill Castle hosting an exhibition for the Kilkenny Arts Festival. The festival includes paintings, prints, installations and performances in the castle stable yard and gardens. ‘Flourish’ is held alongside the Kilkenny Arts Festival and offers attendees a unique cultural experience more usual exhibition and gallery spaces set in the Kilkenny countryside.
As well as displaying her own works of art Elizabeth Cope invites a host of Irish and International artists. From London printmakers Colin Gale and Megan Fishpool to Kilkenny based artist Jennifer Cavey O’Donoghue. Cavey O’Donoghues lively work is a combination of decorative embroidery and colourful paint. Gerard Slamon, a professional singer and a performance artist who has presented a series of one-man-shows at the Fifth Avenue headquarters of The American Irish Historical Society (New York City) will be performing ‘A Sunday Miscellany’, a series of poems and songs at Shankill Castle from 4pm on the 7th August.
Reuben Cope’s ever surprising and evocative sculptures and installations will also be on show and painter Mícheál Ó hÉigeartaigh will have his debut exhibition his paintings
Shankill Castle takes pride in exhibiting a range of unusual media and subjects each year that engage the public with art in its varied forms and expressions in a different environment. The gardens, stables and castle provide, not only a unique memorable experience to all the visitors, but it also makes them interact with what they are seeing in a different way to the more commonplace gallery and museum interaction.
The exhibition is open to the public and free. There will be a pop up cafe at the castle for the duration of the exhibition.
