Ceann 2011 is an exhibition that celebrates a mixture of local and international contemporary art through print, paint and stone. These components are brought together by a writer, architects, sculptors and painters to create a visual feast which contrasts with the historic setting of Shankill Castle.
The exhibition comprises the 30ft ‘Golgotha’ from Derek Culley, Liv Nielsen‘s ‘anti-pessimism and anti-materialsit’ paintings, linocut prints and landscapes in watercolour by Mungo McCosh . Also in watercolour are the abstract works of Richard Dyer. Phoebe Cope has drawings from her recent Indian collection and some sculpture in the exhibition. There will be the latest etchings of London Zoo animals by Elizabeth Cope.
Sandra Gibson launches her book Ain’t Bad for a Pink; Life of Bluesman Pete ‘Snakey Jake’ Johnson . Shane O’Toole, in association with the IAF presents two documentaries about Ireland at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The variety of the show aims to highlight the differences in approach, yet similarities in cognition between the 8 artists.
The exhibition runs daily from 5th- 14th August 10am-5pm. Friday 5th and Sunday 7th 2-6pm.
On Sunday the 7th the Honourable Desmond Guinness will officially open the exhibition at 3pm.
There will be one of Elizabeth Cope’s Somalian paintings from her travels there with Trocaire in 1994 for sale at Ceann2011. The proceeds of the painting will go to Trocaire for the East Africa Crisis.
